WordCamps and WordPress Meetups to be Dropped this Year in Favor of Virtual Events

Virtual events have quickly replaced the conventional physical meetup in the tech world due to social distancing. The WordPress Community is no exception because they have officially updated their guidelines for all 2020 WordCamps to be remote only held events.

?‍??‍? Virtual events have quickly replaced the conventional physical meetup in the tech world due to social distancing. The WordPress Community is no exception because they have officially updated their guidelines for all 2020 WordCamps to be remote only held events. The upcoming schedule of WordCamp to be held all through the year 2020 have already been planned with online presentation settings. 




According to one of the WordPress Community team members who said in his announcement that due to the seriousness of the global pandemic they have decided to settle for a remote meetup because of the safety of everyone. These new guidelines will be revisited next year for re-evaluation. However, some WordCamp organizers are already planning for a virtual-only event for 2021, one of the first organizers to adopt a remote event is the WordCamp Europe Committee for their upcoming event in 2021 which they have already started to put all necessary plans in place.

WordCamps has always brought great ideas and collaboration for attendees. While physical meetups are priceless because of the networking opportunities it brings like personal conversations, breakouts, and dinners sessions, virtual events also have its’s own benefits of being a more global inclusive event.
